President of the Republic of the Rio Grande Scholarship
The Webb County Heritage Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to historic preservation, heritage education, and heritage tourism, announces an annual scholarship for local students. The President of the Republic of the Rio Grande Scholarship will award $500.00 for the purpose of assisting a student in the pursuit of a college degree. The scholarship is not necessarily restricted to those students interested in pursuing a history degree. The only requirements for application are the following:
1. The applicant must be a candidate for graduation in May, 2006 from a high school located in Webb County.
2. Along with the scholarship application form, the applicant must provide a one-page typed, double-spaced essay on his/her family history.
3. The applicant must provide a letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, or administrator.

The Webb County Heritage Foundation’s Scholarship Committee will judge the application and select finalists for an interview to be conducted in mid April.
